Welcome to my Nature gallery. I have set this up (in the process of), in different categories.
1: In their home ~ meaning that the photographs are taken in their element, not my yard. The
birds and animals that you see are not BAITED. They are animals that have blessed me with the
ability to take their picture.
As a part of this section, I also have a CREX MEADOW gallery. When I have the opportunity to
visit specific places such as this, I will include them in their own gallery.
About Crex Meadow
- A part of Wisconsin's scenic Indianhead Country, the Crex Meadows Wildlife Area is
located in beautiful Burnett County, just north of the Village of Grantsburg. At 30,000
acres Crex is the largest state owned wildlife area in Wisconsin. This intensively managed
property is home to 270 species of birds and 600 species of plants. A wide variety of
mammals, reptiles, amphibians, and insects also reside here. Originally part of the Northern
Wisconsin Pine Barrens, it is now the state's largest remaining portion of this globally
endangered ecosystem. The rare sedge marsh and brush prairie habitats make the area a
utopia for wildlife which, in turn, makes Crex a paradise for bird watchers, naturalists,
botanists, hunters, trappers, and all the other hearty explorers who are interested in the
great bounty that nature offers (from the Crex Meadow web site).
2: Back yard ~ meaning that they are plants that grow in my yard. If they are birds, and they
visited to my bird feeders. In this category I will also place pictures from flower gardens of
other people, greenhouses, and my own garden.
With this being said, we live on a hobby farm and have some trees in our front yard that most
birds will stop at. I stop feeding birds when the bears come out and don't feed again till fall and
migration. Birds pictures taken on these trees (when not feeding), I consider to be in their home
environment.
I chose to present my wild life photographs this way because it is important to me to share the
beauty that I see. It is always a treat to witness animals in their home environment. There
tends to be curiosity in their expressions.
I will do my best to identify the bird or plant...If I am not 100% sure or even close, I will leave
them blank.
Thank you for stopping by and please ENJOY! Anna Martineau Merritt
